The Essel Group-owned DishTV is set to launch its personal video recorders (PVR) in August. DishTV has also launched its own satellite, which will further increase the channel capacity to 400 from the current 200 channels.

Jawahar Goel, Additional Vice Chairman, DishTV, said, “Our PVR is ready for commercial launch. We will start offering the service in beginning August.”

He, however, said that the company was yet to finalise the price of the product. “Since the personal video recorder is expected to remain a high-end niche product, at least initially, its price will not be comparable to the price of existing set-top boxes,” Goel added.

“The device will provide a recording facility so that a user can programme this device to record a TV programme as per one’s convenience. It will also enable DTH players to offer other value added services like video-on-demand,” he said.

Goel further said, “DishTV’s new satellite would have 30-40 channels that would be on-demand as also active service channels. There will be addition of astrology channels as well. At present, DishTV is using the NSS6 Satellite at 95.0 degrees, designed specifically for DTH operations. The new satellite would be at 98.5 degree East.”
