Bengali news channel Kolkata TV is in the news. The channel, which has gone through turbulent times in the past, has been bought over by Manoj Kumar Jain of Jain Group of Industries, a company with interests in the infrastructure development space.

Jain is now the majority stakeholder in Kolkata TV and will take full-fledged managerial and operational control. However, Tathagatha Datta, one of the original promoters, will continue his association as Advisor and Chief Editor. While neither Jain nor Datta were available for their comments, this development has been confirmed by a company spokesperson.

It may be recalled that Kolkata TV was launched in March 2006 by SST Media Pvt Ltd, a part of the Xenitis Group of Companies, with Sumon Chattopadhyay, formerly of ABP/Star Ananda, as Editor, and film personality Aparna Sen as Creative Director, though both quit shortly after the high profile launch.

Subsequently, following a split in the Xenitis Group, Datta, who was Managing Director of what was till sometime back the Xenitis Group of Companies, became the proprietor of SST Media.
