OMD has begun its second year of operations in India on a good note. The agency has bagged the media duties of Intel Corp. The decision comes in the wake of a global pitch process, the decision of which was announced on April 28, 2008. Industry sources peg the ad spends in India to be upwards of Rs 50 crore. Globally, the business was with Universal McCann. Consequently in India, Lodestar Universal was the incumbent agency.

The other agency fighting for the business very closely in the final stage was Starcom Worldwide. The other agencies involved in the initial stages of the global pitch were Mediaedge:cia and Zenith Optimedia. UK-based Ark Advisors handled the review.

OMD India officials couldn’t be contacted at the time of filing the report, however, sources close to the development informed that OMD India was a part of the global pitching team on the business.

The review process per se began in December 2007, but the last five weeks saw rapid action leading to this change in Intel’s media agency. It is also learnt that the creative side of the business is still not under consideration for a review. The creative side worldwide is handled by McCann Erickson.
