Supreme Court’s verdict on the 2G spectrum scam left many telecom operators ‘shocked’ on February 2, 2012. The development spells bad news for the Indian advertising industry as well.

Of the three players that have lost pan India licenses, Uninor, a JV between Telenor Telecom and Unitech Builders, was in the process of completing a review of its media duties. This review was a result of Telenor reviewing its global media duties.

The account size in India was pegged in the vicinity of Rs 125 crore.

While Telenor is expected to announce its media partner soon, the development is unlikely to have any impact in India given that Supreme Court’s verdict puts in question the very presence of Uninor and other players such as Videocon Datacom and MTS in India.

At present Uninor’s media biz is with ZenithOptimedia and creative duties with Leo Burnett.
