In a bid to connect with people on a personal level, The Times of India Kolkata has unveiled a city-specific portal, Kolkatamirror.com. The formal launch of the portal is scheduled for January-end.
Amitava Bhattacharya, General Manager, The Times of India Group, said, “The city-specific portal will be like a banyan tree providing information on everything happening in the city.” He also emphasised that the portal would not be a print version of Mirror.
Elaborating on the content of the portal, Bhattacharya said, “We will accept user generated content in a big way. At the moment, it is in its primitive avatar, but by the time it is launched the portal would look much better. We intend to make it a platform for strong communities. There will be a news section with hourly updates, information database and interactive elements. Users can upload content. Contests will be introduced once the site is officially launched. We intend to make Kolkatamirror.com a one-stop reference point for any information on Kolkata.”
He further said, “Sooner or later advertising is going to migrate to the Net and this is a unique product, wherein we can also package our print products.”
