UTV has been on a high for the past one year and with productions like ‘Special Squad’, ‘Bhabi’ and ‘Shararat’ getting good response, the television content provider is making merry. While 2006 for UTV Television has already started with ‘Shanno Ki Shaadi’ on Star Plus, there are three other new shows that are ready to be aired in the next couple of months.

The new shows include ‘Chamatkar’ – a science quiz show, a reality show ‘John Aur Kaun’, and a comedy as well - ‘Soni Mahival’. While two of these shows, ‘Chamatkar’ and ‘Soni Mahival’ will be on Doordarshan, ‘John Aur Kaun’ will be on Hungama TV.

Said Monisha Singh, Vice-President, UTV Television, “We have a good mix of genres in these new shows. The science quiz show is on everyday science and will be anchored by a well-known presenter. There will be participants from all over India from different age groups. This show is staring in the first or second week of August. The other DD show, ‘Soni Mahival’, is an out and out comedy about a couple played by Varun Badola and Shweta Kwatra. It’s going to be a weekly. And with ‘John Aur Kaun’ we are getting back to the reality genre.”

Explaining the strategy, Singh said, “This is a very UTV way of doing things -- innovating stuff in different genres. In the past too, UTV has successfully managed to tread this line and pull out winners with all the shows. The fact is that UTV has a very structured creative directors’ team with each one having a different forte. And that is perhaps what makes us different and interesting.”

The production house also has a show planned for a Star Network channel and many more in the pipeline. The details as always will be shared closer to the shows going on air.
