Breach of privacy or compliance of law: Internet divided over Razorpay sharing donor data
The AltNews donor data shared with police reportedly contains crucial information like address, name, bank and PAN details of the donors
In a recent turn of events, digital payment gateway service provider Razorpay attracted the ire of twitterati as it handed over user data of donors of AltNews to the police – pertaining to the alleged case of the latter receiving funds from foreign sources. Razorpay took to Twitter to announce its stance on the whole matter, on Tuesday stating that the company is “abiding and compliant with all necessary laws and regulations of India.”

The netizens did not take well to the “breach of privacy” and showed their concerns about future transactions with Razorpay.

In fact if some financial fraud happens, the victim asks police to get data from payment gateway ASAP to catch the culprit.
And under Section 91 of CrPC they are supposed to provide that.
People expect a leading fintech company to not disclose transaction data on request of authorities which can prove to be critical evidence against perpetrator. If they haven't taken funds from wrong sources why are they worried. #Razorpay
