Meta Platforms has been fined $1.3 billion by privacy regulators of the European Union for allegedly sending user data to the US, media networks have reported.

As per the Irish Data Protection Commission, Meta Platforms had not addressed the risks to the fundamental rights and freedoms of users.

The commission has termed the penalty "an administrative fine".

Meanwhile, Meta has said it will appeal to the Irish DPC data transfer calling the fine as unjustified and unnecessary. The company has said they will seek a stay on the order.
