Tech giant Google has announced a fresh round of layoffs and as many as 1,000 employees could be impacted, according to news reports. Several global departments have been affected by the move, especially hardware, digital and central engineering teams. Fresh reports also say that hundreds of employees from its Ad Sales team have also been fired.

Google reportedly sent out a memo to the employees in senior vice president Philipp Schindler's name stating that the layoffs will primarily affect its Large Customer Sales unit, which is responsible for selling ads to big businesses.

It also added that the Google Customer Solution team, which sells ads to smaller businesses, will now comprise the core ad sales team.

Severance packages will be given to eligible employees as per reports, as well as a chance to re-apply to other available roles. Employees who fail to secure the roles will have to leave the company by April, according to reports.

The tech giant will also reportedly assist laid-off employees with outplacement services.
