The Centre is likely to put together regulations for ad tech that act as gatekeepers for online content monetisation, media networks reported quoting Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS, Electronics and IT.

He was addressing a digital news publishers gathering.

As per Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the government doesn't want a handful of tech majors to be able to control the monetisation of the internet. This move, the minister said, will be a priority for PM Narendra Modi in his next term.

The minister has earlier spoken about the government appointing an officer to regulate and curb the menace of deepfakes.

"Deepfakes and other disconcerting content should be removed within 36 hours of reporting. It is the "legal obligation" of intermediaries to prevent the spread of misinformation," he had said.
