India-Pakistan World Cup match receives over 1 million tweets

The clash of the cricketing titans India and Pakistan has always been one of the most- anticipated matches during World Cup. The rivalry between the two sports teams on the World Cup playground has been legendary. The action has seemed to extend online this time around. The India Pakistan match on Sunday received 1 million tweets according to a study done by Simplify360. Sources for the study were Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Tumblr and videos.

The total number of mentions was 1.3 million. #INDvsPAK received 675K tweets while #PAKvsIND received 347k tweets. Nike India promoted hashtag #BleedBlue received 53k tweets. Other trending hashtag was #Team India.



BuzzFeed’s Rega Jha’s tweet about India being Pakistan’s ugly neighbour received 15k tweets and was trending in India for six hours.

Geographically, the maximum percentage of tweets came from India (56.22%), followed by Pakistan (23.98%) and USA (7.38%).



Cricket World Cup’s opening day received 341k tweets. 

A study done by TO THE NEW shows Misbah-Ul-Haq, Pakistani captain was the most discussed player, followed by MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Sohail Khan and Mohammad Shami. TO THE NEW study analysed popularity of the event online over two days which showed conversations around the match surged from 154,591 to 706,040 on the day of the match.
 



The key moments of the match were Virat Kohli’s century and Misbah’s wicket.
