A visit to the Apple store reveals that Apple has lowered the price for the iPad in India by Rs 3,000 across the board for all models. This follows a similar price cut ($100) for the iPad in the US a few days ago. The cheapest WiFi only 16GB model is now priced at Rs 24,500.

Following the announcement of the iPad2 last week, Apple had lowered the price of all first generation iPads by $100 and refurbished devices were made even cheaper by $150. Resellers in the US, like Gazelle, have also reported huge sales of first generation iPads for even lower prices than that as people ready for the iPad2, which will launch on March 11.

No release date for the iPad2 has been announced for India though, so perhaps the cut is also aimed at competition from Android tablets, since the new price puts it lower than the Galaxy Tab, which is the only real competition in India.

However, Apple had in the past blamed a lack of supply for the extreme delay in bringing the iPad to India, South Africa and Dubai, and so this time around, as the company has a better idea of the kind of demand there would be for the device, it is possible that it might make it to Indian shores faster than the first generation iPad did.
