After facing considerable backlash for inaction against US President Donald Trump’s posts, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg informed that he would consider reviewing the company’s content policies.
Although Zuckerberg didn’t get into the specifics, he assured that Facebook will be more transparent in its approach towards certain content.
The Facebook CEO came under fire after he defended the company’s decision to not target Trump’s post, which many found to be incendiary. The US President had referred to the Black Lives Matter protestors as “Thugs” adding that “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.” His comments came at a time when racial tensions in the US are at their height after the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers.
While Zuckerberg cited the institution’s support of freedom of expression as a reason, many employees of Facebook were enraged by his “excuses” and staged a virtual walkout in protest.
