Netflix earnings under govt tax scanner: Report
The tech giant will be the first overseas digital company to be taxed for the income generated from streaming services
The Indian government is planning to tax Netflix over its income generated from streaming services, say media reports. The streaming giant will be the first overseas digital company to be taxed in India for its electronic commerce service.
The government can tax Netflix’s income generated in India since the company has a permanent establishment (PE) in the country.
According to reports, Netflix posted an income of Rs 55 crore in the assessment year 2021-22 and was on secondment in India to support its streaming services. This means that Netflix requires a PE and is liable to pay taxes, say reports.
