Over 38 lakh MNP requests by February-end
TRAI data reveals that by February end, 38 lakh subscribers chose to port their mobile phone connections to new operators, showing no slowdown in the number of requests.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has recorded that by the end of February, over 38 lakh subscribers had chosen to port their mobile phone numbers to new operators. This shows that the number of requests has not slowed down in February, compared to the start of the MNP option on January 20, 2011, when by February 10, the number of requests had been 17 lakh.
As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of February 2011 about 38.33 lakh subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number.
While Haryana initially led in the MNP numbers because the services was brought to the state two months before it was launched in the rest of the country, today, Gujarat leads with 3.65 lakh requests, and highest in Southern India is Karnataka, with 3.18 lakh requests.
TRAI has still not released data on the number of requests that were rejected, but only stated that there were a large number of rejections and complaints, and stated that in view of these rejections, TRAI is in the process of verifying the correctness of the port rejections done by the service providers on sample basis. It observed that the primary reasons for rejection of port request are incorrect unique porting code, non-completion of 90 days, existing contractual obligations and outstanding dues.
