Rediff enters group deals; Snapdeal makes 30k deals in one day
Rediff announces its entry into the group deals space, and Info Edge announces that it's investing Rs 90 million in MyDala.com even as SnapDeal claims to have reached a record 30,000 deals in a single day. Is the group deals vertical headed for a showdown?
Snapdeal.com, one of the top group deals websites, has reached a new milestone – a record high of selling 30,000 coupons in a single day. This comes at the same time as two other major announcements in the group deals sites – Rediff has announced group deals in 40 Indian cities, while Info Edge has announced an investment of Rs 90 million in mydala.com.
Global leader GroupOn, which allegedly turned down a buyout offer from Google in December, and recently entered India by acquiring SoSasta.com, is also planning to restructure and expand in a big way, sources inform us, suggesting that the movements in the group buying space have only begun, and the vertical is going to heat up in the days to come.
Snapdeal announced that on a deal for mobile prepaid recharges, the company was able to reach 100 deals per minute. “It feels great to achieve a milestone of this magnitude and I will ensure that we keep coming up with more innovative deals for our customers.” said Kunal Bahl, Founder and CEO, Snapdeal.com.
Rediff, whose service will be known as Rediff Deal Ho Jaye, reaches over 15 million users a month, giving it a built in audience which the newer group buying sites still can't match. “With the introduction of Deal Ho Jaye!, Rediff now offers local merchants and business owners options for reaching consumers well beyond their traditional scope, building upon our e-commerce platform” said Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman and CEO.
