Tarak Bajpai, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Singapore-based online survey company Speak Asia, was arrested by Mumbai police on July 29, 2011 for alleged financial irregularities.
It is pertinent to note here that following a controversy in May this year over the company’s operations, an investor protection group had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court. Reportedly, the arrest of Bajpai has come just two days after CID had frozen bank accounts of Speak Asia.
Speak Asia, which is yet to be incorporated as a company in India, charges a membership fee of Rs 11,000 for a year. The members then conduct online surveys for clients of the firm for which they reportedly get paid Rs 500 for each survey.
