Yahoo confirmed that it is trimming its product development team in Bangalore. Media reports suggest that nearly 300-400 might be affected in this latest round of lay-offs.
The internet major seems to be working towards shifting the core of its R&D and product development back to its Sunnyvale, California headquarters. The Indian R&D centre was Yahoo’s biggest product development centre outside the US at one point of time.
However, it seems that other divisions of Yahoo will not be affected. “As we ensure that Yahoo is on a path of sustainable growth, we’re looking at ways to achieve greater efficiency, collaboration and innovation across our business,” said a press statement. Yahoo has said that certain teams would be consolidated into fewer offices though Yahoo will continue to have a presence in India.
