Personal is a word one uses generously in connection with the Photographers Guild of India’s (PGI) yearly event, Exhibit A. The work showcased is personal and not funded by any client. It is also a collection of the photographer’s personal favourites, over the year. And it is quite a personal statement by each person. Take a look at the work displayed by Atul Kasbekar, Ashok Salian and Jagdish Mali among others.

The opening night of the event saw a number of well known and not so well known photographers caught at the other end of the lens for a change. Ashok Salian retained his title as ‘most popular person at most events’ as one camera crew after the other, trained their microphones at him. Why the name Exhibit A? Salian, Hon. Secretary, PGI, explains rather seriously at first, “Well, we could call it Exhibit C, next time!” before bursting into peals of his characteristic laughter. So, anyone looking for profound reasons behind the choice of name can rest their gray cells for now.
