Kids’ channel Cartoon Network India celebrated Tom & Jerry’s 70th birthday on March 31. The iconic characters interacted with the media and the kids along with stand up comedian Vir Das.
The event saw the presence of the crème de la crème of Delhi with their kids. Well-known cartoonist Sudhir Tailang, along with Monica Tata, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Tom and Jerry.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Desai, Director - Programming, South Asia, Turner International India Pvt Ltd, said, “70 years and growing more popular than ever, that is Tom & Jerry for you. It’s amazing to see the magic of Tom & Jerry alive and kicking as they continue to entertain generations with their endearing humour, pranks and never-ending chase. Cartoon Network is proud to be home to the legendary duo Tom & Jerry, who have given millions of laughs for seven decades and is the network’s top rated show. We invite viewers of all ages to sit back and get ready for an hour and a half of laughter with the lovable Tom & Jerry in ‘Chooha Billi Chor Police’.”
As part of the celebrations, a special song for Tom & Jerry is being aired on Cartoon Network and two exciting ‘prank’ themed on-air contests were rolled out as well. The ‘TJ Top 10’ contest invited kids to vote for their favourite and prankiest Tom & Jerry shows via SMS and the first 250 respondents won the ultimate TJ prank kits and exclusive TJ school bags. ‘TJ Tom’ contest had invited kids to send in their jokes or suggest gags that they would love to play on Tom.
