Empower India Foundation is all set to launch a new Hindi magazine ‘IndiaNext’ on June 30. With a cover price of Rs 20, the fortnightly magazine will be available across 17 states – Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Manipur, Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala.
On giving a Hindi language magazine an English name, E Abubacker, Publisher & Editor, IndiaNext, explained, “We plan to bring out the magazine in languages like English, Urdu and Bengali in the future. Giving the magazine an English name ensures that we don’t have to change the magazine’s name every time we launch it in a different language.”
The magazine will focus on news related to current affairs, contemporary issues and cover wide ranging topics like sports, politics, environment, youth, education, career, culture and so on. Abubacker sees established players like India Today and Tehelka as strong competitors.
Apart from newsstand sales, the company is focussing on subscriptions to push sales. Abubacker shared, “In a bid to enroll subscribers, we had undertaken an Annual Advance Subscription campaign from May 1 to 15, 2012. As part of the campaign, all 24 issues of the magazine published between July 2012 and June 2013 will be delivered to advance subscribers at an annual discount rate.” Post the campaign, the subscription rate for ‘IndiaNext’ has been kept at Rs 350.
When asked what would set the magazine apart from those already available in the market, Abubacker replied, “We will stand up for the protection of civil and human rights.”
Empower India Foundation has been founded by a group of activists from different states and with diverse background such as media, human rights and community services. The magazine’s editorial and administrative teams are based in the head office in New Delhi.
