The MAA Foundation and The Ad Club Bangalore successfully hosted one of the most awaited calendar events of the advertising industry – The Annual Ayaz Peerbhoy Memorial Lecture (APML), at the ITC Windsor, Bangalore, on 31st January 2018.

The memorial lecture, now in its 37th year, was delivered by eminent guest speaker, Mr. Jitu Virwani, Chairman and Managing Director, Embassy Group, who addressed a large audience with his illuminating talk and shared interesting pearls of wisdom and experience from his corporate journey since the tender age of 19.

The talk traced the seasoned and savvy entrepreneur’s journey from the time he entered the property development business in 1985, to his position as one of the visionary leaders of the industry as it stands today. His down-to-earth and frank discussion, though peppered with witty anecdotes, told the story of how one can turn every setback on its head to reveal true opportunity, provided they have the grit to persevere.

Started in 1980 by MAA Group Chairman Mr. Bunty Peerbhoy in memory of his late father Mr. Ayaz Peerbhoy – who is remembered to this day for his notable contribution to the advertising world – the event has over the years gained prominence for its thought-provoking and insightful discussions, and has emerged as an excellent platform for networking and knowledge-sharing in the industry.

Several well-known names such as Gurcharan Das of Procter & Gamble, Subhas Ghosal of Contract Advt Agency, Charles D Peebler Jr, Chief Executive Officer, Bozell Worldwide, R Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director, Tata Sons Ltd., Rakesh Mohan, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Harsh C Mariwala, CMD, Marico Ltd., and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairman, Biocon, have addressed the event in the past and delivered informative sessions on key industry subjects.

Says Mr. Bunty Peerbhoy, “Over the past 37 years, the APML has had the fortune to be graced by distinguished speakers from both India and abroad. This year, we had the pleasure of learning about the growth of one of the most prestigious brands in the real estate development industry through the eyes of Mr. Jitu Virwani, who has successfully navigated the company through some of its most trying as well as exciting phases. At the MAA Foundation, we’re continually aiming to break glass ceilings and set the course for industrial disruptions and path-breaking trends.”
