‘Malli’, touted as Chennai’s first magazine for the connoisseur of food, was launched on December 8, 2010 by Kavita Chesetty, who pioneered the popular food portal www.malli.in.
‘Malli’ is an extended personality of www.malli.in, the gourmet guide on when, what, who, where and how of dining and drinking in Chennai. From tips and techniques, recipes and food ideas, global and local fare, nutrition and kids cooking, the magazine is enriched with content from some of the best culinary minds. Article contributions from food writers, cookbook authors and chefs from around the world give the magazine an exotic blend.
‘Malli’s philosophy is ‘food is not a daunting task’. The magazine will come out once in two months and will be packed with a high utility value for the novice and the gourmet.
The first issue of the magazine was a Christmas special. The entire magazine has been designed to retain as a keepsake. The perforations along the recipes ensure that an enthusiastic cook will preserve the page for future reference. The centrespread of the magazine is adorned with food art and calendar. A hole ensures that the magazine can be hung on the wall and be always accessible for the reader. Sharad Haksar and his agency 1 Pointsize are responsible for the photography and design of the magazine.
Malli and www.malli.in are part of Kayce Foods Pvt Ltd. Dedicated to all things food, Malli’s inspiration comes from the eponymous flower ‘Malli poo’ (jasmine in Tamil), which is very symbolic to Chennai. The name also draws the fervour and flavour of kotha malli (coriander in Tamil), suggesting a dash of zing.
