The young photojournalist passed away on June 15, succumbing to cerebral malaria, which he contracted while on an assignment to Chhattisgarh
Tarun Sehrawat, a photojournalist with Tehelka, passed away on June 15, 2012. He had started out as a photographer with Tehelka in 2007.
Sehrawat, 23, was on an assignment to Abujmarh, a Maoist-controlled region in Chhattisgarh, when he came down with cerebral malaria, typhoid and jaundice. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he slipped in and out of coma. After fighting bravely the infections ravaging his body for one and a half months, Sehrawat breathed his last.
Sehrawat, along with Tehelka reporter Tusha Mittal, were in the interiors of Chhattisgarh for about a week without much supplies. The young photographer reportedly drank water from a pond when they ran out of water.
The Twitter world is agog with tweets on Sehrawat’s dedication to his work, his always smiling countenance, finding beauty in even the most mundane things and of course, lamenting the loss of a talented life so young.
