Patrika launched a Cricket tournament on the 29th of August, 2010, with the torch being lit by CP Joshi, Honorable Minister for Rural Development, who is also the President of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
This initiative, which involves the common masses, is a part of a reader engagement exercise. Later in the evening, Nirajan Shah, Vice-President, Indian Premier League (IPL) and Ex Secretary, BCCI, and India Cricketer, Yusuf Pathan, inaugurated the tournament. Subsequently they also unveiled the Patrika Cup trophy and signed the golden bat. Also present at the occasion were eminent ministers and all participating teams besides the big stars of the corporate world and celebrities.
Praveen Nahata, AGM, Public Response, said, "Patrika is a very interactive newspaper and is well known for its public connect. Such initiatives are not new for the Patrika Group. Patrika Cup has proved very popular in its earlier round."
Patrika Cup will involve six states, 1100 teams fighting on municipal ward basis, involving 15000 players. Prizes worth Rs.25 Lakhs are up for grabs.
The Dream Team from Madhya Pradesh, Dream Team from Rajasthan & National Editions involving Bengal, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Gujrat will be contesting each other in 20:20 match format. The finals will be held at the renowned Sawai Man Singh Stadium Jaipur.
