Radio City, in association with BPI, publisher of children’s book, has launched an audio book titled ‘City of Tales’, a story telling property for kids. The audio books market is still at a nascent stage in India, which consists of a market share of 5-10 per cent of the publishing business as compared to the US market.
Apart from using radio as a medium extensively, there will be tie-ups with various schools and e-commerce will also be used to market the audio book. The expertise, the artists, the script writers, equipment, and so on for the audio book are all said to be from Radio City itself. Eight years since its launch, Radio City has now ventured into the audio book space and thus further expanding its business.
The first two releases of ‘City of Tales’ are folk tales and animal wisdom, each title comprising five stories, with each story of 8-10 minute duration. The titles are available in Hindi and English.
Apurva Purohit, CEO, Radio City, said, “Radio City’s extension in this segment only seemed logical as our association with the art of entertainment through audio is over a decade old. We couldn’t think of anyone better than BPI India to partner with, since they specialise in publishing children’s books. We believe this is the right time for us to venture into this space, keeping in mind the growing market of audio books. With audio books our goal is to entertain and engage children through the old storytelling method, but in a new medium.”
Sunil Patki, MD, BPI India, said, “In the last 3-4 years, BPI India has progressively made a distinct mark in children's books publishing. Our creative, exciting and educational product basket is a mix of licensed and indigenous products. It’s our privilege to partner with Radio City, who has an edge in audio over the years. This partnership gives BPI India its first set of audio products.”
