The Supreme Court has granted a significant reprieve to Upendra Rai, chairman of Bharat Express News Network and a senior journalist. The country's highest court has dismissed the special leave petition (SLP) filed by the CBI against him. The CBI had previously challenged the Delhi High Court's decision quashing the case against Rai.
However, during the hearing, the Supreme Court clarified that there was no basis for interference with the High Court's order. The Supreme Court bench stated in its order that it was not inclined to interfere with the High Court's impugned order, and therefore, the special leave petition was dismissed.
The court also ruled that other pending related applications will be considered disposed of. According to legal experts, this Supreme Court decision significantly limits the legal possibilities for the case involving Upendra Rai. Rai, who hails from Sherpur village in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, is considered one of the most prominent figures in the Indian media world.
Under his leadership, the Bharat Express News Network has distinguished itself over the years. This Supreme Court decision is being seen as a significant legal relief for him, putting an end to a long-running dispute.
