BCCI sees 116% jump in surplus income for IPL 2023 over 2022

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly earned a surplus of Rs 5,120 crore from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. This posts a 116% jump from the Rs 2,367 crore it made in 2023, said a news article quoting BCCI’s annual report for 2022-23.
While total income from IPL 2023 rose 78% YoY to Rs 11,769 crore, expenditure increased 66% to Rs 6,648 crore, said the report.
The growth has been attributed to new media rights worth Rs 48,390 crore and sponsorship deals. Disney Star secured the IPL TV rights for 2023-27 for a bid of Rs 23,575 crore and JioCinema bagged digital rights with Rs 23,758 crore bid.
Tata Sons bagged the title rights for Rs 2,500 crore for a five-year period. BCCI also earned through selling associate sponsorships to MyCircle11, RuPay, AngelOne, and Ceat for Rs 1,485 crore.
Media rights income reportedly is Rs 8,744 crore up 131% from Rs 3,789 crore in 2022. BCCI’s earnings from franchise fees rose 22% to Rs 2,117 crore from Rs 1,739 crore and sponsorship revenue grew 2% to Rs 847 crore.
