TAM Media Research has released the six-metro numbers for day 2, 3 and 4 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 2. Around 28 million viewers watched the IPL matches across April 19, 20 and 21. Just about every match has delivered lower TRPs than what was seen last year. The 2008 series had seen ratings fluctuating from 5 to 7 TRPs per match, but this year, the numbers are between 4 and 6 TRPs per match.
When the IPL reach built-up is considered, the last three matches have shown higher reach than last series.
The April 19 matches – Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils (5.08) and Kolkata Knight Riders vs Deccan Chargers (5.34) – have rated around the 5 TRP-mark that the first two matches of the series had shown. Delhi had rated high for the first match on the day followed by Hyderabad – both cities delivering over 6 TRPs.
For the second match, Mumbai and Hyderabad have rated very well with over 7 TRPs coming from both cities. Interestingly, though Kolkata was playing in this match, the viewership from the Kolkata market was as low as 3.96 TRPs.
The match played on April 20 between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers has picked up and it stood at 6.02 TRPs. Hyderabad and Delhi contributed the most to the numbers, with each city delivering around 7 TRPs, followed by Bangalore, Delhi and Chennai.
However, the following match – Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21 has dropped to 3.64 TRPs. With the exception of Kolkata, that had a viewership of 4.88, every market has delivered poorly for this match.
As is known, the Mumbai Indian vs Rajasthan Royals match was abandoned due to rains.
