Surprise, ratings of weekdays for IPL3 higher than weekends

While one would expect more people to tune in to the IPL matches on weekends, the opposite is being seen. According to TAM, all India market from March 12-27, 2010, IPL3 received an average TVR of 4.86 per cent on week days, while on weekends the ratings saw a marginal drop with an average TVR of 4.55 per cent.

Weekends have had little or no impact on viewership for IPL3. During weekends, most of the matches aired in the afternoon have not received good viewership, despite Mumbai Indians being featured in one of them. According to TAM, all India market from March 12-27, 2010, IPL3 had received an average TVR of 4.86 per cent on week days, while on weekends the ratings saw a marginal drop with average TVR of 4.55 per cent.

The highest TVR received during weekends so far, has not gone beyond 5 per cent. The Chennai Super Kings versus Deccan Chargers match received the highest TVR of 5.78 per cent on Sunday, March 14. This was followed by the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore match with a TVR of 5.55 per cent on Saturday, March 20.

Interestingly, a match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, played on Saturday, March 13, received a TVR of just 3.67 per cent. The lowest, however, was 2.87 per cent TVR for the match played between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. This was the first match on Saturday, March 20.

Not surprisingly, the matches that received TVR in the range of 2-3 per cent were mainly played during the afternoons.

The weekdays, on the other hand, enjoyed ratings in the range of 6 per cent, most of them being matches involving Mumbai Indians. The highest ratings received is a TVR of 6.67 per cent, for the Mumbai Indians versus Kolkata Knight Riders match played on Monday, March 22.

The second highest TVR during weekends so far has been 6.38 per cent, this match was played on Thursday, March 25, 2010 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Wednesday, March 17, again saw a TVR of 6.24 per cent for the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils.

The lowest TVR received for a weekday match was 2.57 per cent on the afternoon of March 25. The match was between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils. Another match that involved Delhi Daredevils received a TVR of 2.89 per cent, which played on Friday, March 19.
