Deepinder Goyal’s “mystery forehead device” sparks social media frenzy

A photo from a Feeding India school visit triggers speculation and humour online

Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal unintentionally became the centre of an online conversation after a photograph from his recent philanthropic visit went viral for an unusual reason: a small, shiny object spotted near his forehead.

The image, originally shared by Goyal on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, was part of a post highlighting a visit to a school supported by Feeding India, Zomato’s non-profit initiative. In his post, he thanked partner brands for contributing toys and learning kits, and described the experience as “wonderful and fulfilling” for the children involved.

However, one photograph in the series quickly diverted the internet’s attention. Users noticed a gold or stone-like object positioned near Goyal’s forehead, leading to widespread speculation about what it might be. The guesses ranged from playful to imaginative—an “infinity stone”, a “brain-sensor chip”, and even a health-monitoring device.

Soon, the internet was filled with light-hearted theories. One user joked about anti-gravity blood flow,

Another asked whether it was a Zomato Gold badge:

Many users joked that the object was an "Infinity Stone”

Goyal himself stepped into the conversation, responding to one user by calling it “the infinity stone”, signalling that he was in on the joke. The quick, self-aware response further fuelled the online banter and helped the moment spread even wider.

The Likely Explanation: A Scientific Link

While the jokes were flying, the most likely explanation for the object is tied to Goyal's other major project: Continue Research.

Goyal’s self-funded venture, Continue Research, is dedicated to studying human longevity and the mechanisms of aging. Just days before the viral photo, Goyal had announced the venture’s first major hypothesis: the "Gravity Aging Hypothesis."

The Hypothesis: The hypothesis suggests that the constant pull of gravity on the body's upright posture subtly reduces Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF) to the brain over decades. This chronic under perfusion, may weaken key brain regions and contribute to age-related decline.

Regardless of its eventual outcome, the tiny golden object has successfully captured public attention, highlighting Goyal's move into the health and longevity space.
