Associated Press and Google News Initiative will be building a tool with which the respective newsrooms can share content and coverage plans, as per media reports.
AP has long been a content provider but it also wants to be a provider of capability, said Noreen Gillespie, AP’s Deputy Managing Editor for U.S. news.
The Local News Sharing Network will involve two dozen local publishers in New York state.
The tool is still being developed but over $200,000 from Google will allow AP to hire a relationship manager. The agreement also requires AP to produce a document for other collaboratives. The tool is expected to be operational in January.
