Deccan Chargers rules out boycotting IPL3; completes its inventories with five sponsors
After threatening to boycott IPL3 over shifting the match venue out of Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers has said that that there is no question of it boycotting IPL3. The IPL franchise is said to have completed its inventories with five sponsors, along with Idea Cellular as its title sponsor.
Following the decision of the Indian Premier League (IPL) authorities to shift all matches out of Hyderabad, including the inaugural match, fearing an outbreak of violence given the volatile situation in Andhra Pradesh over demand for Telangana state, Deccan Chargers had threatened to pull out of the IPL3 if the six home games of the IPL franchise were not reinstated to Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Now, the Hyderabad-based IPL franchise has said that it would not boycott the IPL3 tournament, but would work together with IPL authorities to ensure the success of Season 3 after being assured by the authorities that their interests would be protected. It is also learnt that Deccan Chargers are trying hard to get at least three IPL matches to be played in Hyderabad.
When contacted, Venkat Reddy, Director of Operations, Deccan Chargers, said, “We are working together with the IPL authorities to ensure the success of IPL3 and have been reassured by the Commissioner of IPL that our interests will be protected and there is no question of Deccan Charger pulling out of IPL3. In fact, we hope to retain our title in IPL3.”
While Idea Cellular has been roped in as the title sponsor, the defending champions have reportedly completed its inventories and have at least five other sponsors on board, whose names were not disclosed at the time of filing the report.
With Idea Cellular as the title sponsor, it will launch a range of value added services across the country through voice, SMS and even WAP portals. This association will also allow Idea subscribers to win tickets for the matches, autographed merchandise, and even meeting the players to name a few.
