Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has said that the emergence of digital media has increased access to information but increased the chances of misinformation being spread, media networks have reported.
The minister said he has realised that the digital reach of publications has increased significantly and the media landscape has changed to a large extent.
He also referred to the menace of fake news or infodemic during the Covid-19 pandemic.
There is a need to keep a check on misinformation and see "what is going in our newspapers and on our platforms", the minister was quoted as saying.
