MIB asks media houses to take care of staff after journos test positive for COVID-19
The ministry also advised frontline news professionals to take necessary precautions while travelling to hotspots, containment zones and other COVID-affected areas
A few days after the news of journalists, camerapersons and other news professionals contracting coronavirus broke, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has written to all print and electronic media houses, advising them “to take necessary care of their field staff as well as office staff.”
In a letter to the media houses, GC Aron (Director IP) noted that a large number of news professionals recently contracted COVID-19 during coverage. The ministry advised frontline reporters, camera persons, photographers, etc. to take necessary “health and related precautions” while travelling to hotspots, containment zones and other affected areas.
It has also asked the media house to ensure necessary care to their field staff and office staff.
Recently, the TV Journalists Association in Mumbai along with the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ran a camp for journalists to test them for coronavirus. On Monday, test results showed that 53 out of the 167 scribes tested are COVID-19 positive.
