There isn’t much cheer for publications in Assam in this quarter, with just one publication witnessing positive growth among the Top 10 dailies. Not a single of the top five magazines have seen any growth in Q2.
Asomiya Pratidin leads among dailies in the Assam market, however, its AIR figures fell by 4.31 per cent in IRS Q2 2010 at 1,177,000, as compared to 1,230,000 in Q2. Asomiya Khabar, placed at second spot, has seen a sharp drop of 10.84 per cent in AIR, while Dainik Agradoot at No. 3 has also seen a steep fall of 12.42 per cent in AIR.
English daily, Assam Tribune, which is placed fourth in Assam, is the only daily to register a positive growth. The paper grew by 6.64 per cent, recording an AIR of 241,000 in Q2, as against 226,000 in the previous quarter.
The Telegraph, the only other English language daily in the Top 10 list, has seen a decline of 8.25 per cent in AIR. The paper is placed 10th in the Assam market. The only other language daily to have made it to the Top 10 list in this market is Bengali daily Dainik Jugasankha.
There is no respite for Assamese periodicals either, as all the top five periodicals have recorded a decline in AIR numbers. Bismoi, the top Assamese periodical, has seen an AIR of 346,000 in Q2, as against 378,000 in the previous quarter, a fall of 8.47 per cent. Sadin is placed second, followed by Priyo Sakhi. Both have seen decline of 14.29 per cent and 15.42 per cent, respectively. Nandini is at No. 4 and has recorded a steep drop of 23.37 per cent in AIR. Placed fifth is General Knowledge Today, the only English magazine in this list. The magazine has seen the sharpest drop in AIR at 32.26 per cent.
