Genre Check: Star Plus continues a high lead in channel GRPs

Star Plus has undertaken various new initiatives to distance itself from the threat that newcomer Colors has been posing. Some of the initiatives have paid off and the channel has maintained a 95-point difference in the overall GRPs between itself and the No. 2 player in the latest TAM week. Sources inform that Star Plus is eyeing to grow its GRPs to 350 plus.

The Hindi general entertainment channel trends are surely changing. Much as no one could not have thought that one day Balaji and Star Plus would be locking horns with each other, no one could have also fathomed that Balaji would be one day working on a non-K serial for the primetime slot on Star Plus. ‘Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna’ is coming at the 10.00 pm slot on the channel from November 3, 2008. This is the first non-K serial from Ekta Kapoor ever since the K-brigade rule of Balaji had begun in 2000.

‘Tujh Sang...’ is yet another initiative from Star Plus to keep its lead over other Hindi GECs. The latest data from TAM Media Research shows that for the target C&S 4+ in the Hindi speaking markets, Star Plus has maintained a 95-point lead over the second highest scorer in the genre in week 43. Star Plus has cornered 310 GRPs this week; Colors has 215 GRPs; and Zee TV has 198 GRPs. Sony has 86 GRPs this week; NDTV Imagine and Star One have 73 GRPs each; Sahara One is at 60 GRPs; 9X is at 54 GRPs; and SAB is at 33 GRPs.

There is no change in the top rated shows that are switching between ‘Balika Vadhu’ on Colors and ‘Bidaai’ on Star Plus – this week it is the former.
