More than 14 billion people tuned in to watch Charles III getting crowned as the new monarch of the United Kingdom, according to data released by the BBC. 13.4 million watched the event on the main BBC One channel with an average of 11.9 million watching the coverage on Saturday.
The public broadcaster revealed that a signed version on BBC One peaked at 1.7 million, averaging at 1.4 million.
King Charles' coronation is the first in 70 years after Queen Elizabeth's crowning on 2 June 1953. It is the first coronation ceremony to be aired in colour.
Last year, Queen Elizabeth's funeral saw 26.2 million people watching, peaking at 28 million with 18.5 million on BBC. In 2011, the royal wedding of Prince and Princess of Wales was watched by 24 million.
