The Ministry of Information and broadcasting (MIB) has asked Local Cable Operators (LCOs) to submit registration and certificate details for assignment of National Registration Number.

MIB said that the LCOs are granted Registration under the Section 4 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 at the Local Head Post Office of the area of their operations. Section 3 of the Act states that no person shall operate a cable television network unless he is registered as a cable operator under the Act.

The ministry issued an advisory on January 19, to address the issue of difficulty faced by the LCOs in renewal of their registration as well as to warn the LCOs to not operate without valid registration.

Now, to further address these issues and streamline the process of registration, the LCOs are directed to furnish the details and documents within 15 days through the Broadcast Seva Portal.

MIB als directed  MSOs and HITS operators to ensure that LCOs having interconnection agreements with them furnish the details within the prescribed time limit.

MIB said that this Ministry shall assign a National Registration Number of each LCO on receipt of the above details and a centralised list of LCOs named "National Register of LCOs" shall also be prepared and placed in the public domain.

With effect from April 1, 2024, MSOs and HITS Operators may provide signals or enter into fresh interconnection agreement with only those LCOs whose name appear in the National Register of LCOs published by the Ministry.
