It may be the order of the day, but most companies that can afford to invest in media are definitely taking a shot at general entertainment channels. One of the recent ones to join the list appears to be media company Miditech. Even as Miditech officials didn’t offer any comments on the development, sources informed that Miditech was already gearing to launch a Hindi GEC.

Sources further said that internal restructuring was already underway at Miditech to support this launch and an aggressive hunt for a CEO was underway. The idea is to launch the kind of content that Miditech has been associated with, which is in the realm of New Age format shows, reality genre and even soaps, but with a fresh line of television in it.

If industry word is anything to go by, Miditech is targeting to launch the channel within the next nine months. Other details regarding content strategies and other areas of focus were not available at the time of filing the report.

This is the sixth Hindi GEC that has been announced so far this year. The others in the pipeline include Zee Next from Zee, INX Media’s 9X, NDTV Imagine, Viacom-18 and Sahara One’s proposed channels.
