Star India seeks to renegotiate $3bn media rights deal with ICC: Reports
According to a media report, Star India has sent an email to ICC to renegotiate the deal
Star India has requested a renegotiation on the $3 billion media rights deal for the 2024-27 period with the International Cricket Council (ICC), media networks have reported.
Star is said to have sought a renegotiation of its contract. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held in the US and the West Indies to promote cricket in new regions, saw fewer Indian viewers due to inconvenient match timings, the report said.
The situation is said to have been further compounded by erratic weather, which caused several games, including an India match, to be either washed out or shortened.
e4m reached out to Disney Star for an official comment but didn’t get any response at the time of filing the story.
Sources familiar with the matter have reportedly stated that the agreement between the ICC and Star India is rigid, with no provisions for renegotiation or exit.
