The industry has been abuzz with news of top media exec Uday Shankar stepping down from his role as President of The Walt Disney Company (APAC) and Chairman of Star & Disney India. A titan in the Indian M&E industry, Shankar has played a significant role in transforming the media landscape of the country. e4m reached out to top thought leaders for their views on his departure from one of the top media posts in the country. Prasanth Kumar (PK), CEO, GroupM, South Asia, recollects the time he worked closely with Shankar, and he doesn't hold back the praises. 

"Uday is a terrific leader," he notes. "With a stellar vision and an awesome execution, many times, it's been a wonderful learning."

Taking about Shankar's contributions to the industry, Kumar notes how they have always been towards a progressive direction. "These years, working closely with him and as an observer of this leadership, it’s been truly inspirational," PK recounts. 

As Shankar gears up for this next entrepreneurial venture, PK says, "I wish him always the very best!"

Before he took over the reins of The Walt Disney Company (APAC), Shankar was the president of 21st Century Fox for Asia and the Chairman & CEO of Star India. In 2007, helmed Star India and transformed it into one of the most successful media companies in Asia. His contributions have revolutionised Indian media landscape.

Shankar will remain with Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International Segment through the end of 2020 and will work closely with Rebecca Campbell, Chairman of Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment, to identify his successor.
