The Times Group has confirmed the launch of its first-ever satellite television channel, Zoom. Lemon Communications has bagged the creative account, while the media buying will be done in-house by the Zoom marketing team. This week the channel is inviting agencies within the public relations sphere (based in Mumbai) to pitch for the Zoom account. According to Apurva Purohit, COO, Times Television, Zoom is going to be a premium Hindi entertainment channel catering to non-fiction and celebrity-based content. The channel will be launched in the third quarter of this year.

The channel is also signing up with some leading celebrities to be associated with their shows. However, when asked about specific names she refused to divulge any details.

Purohit states: “Zoom is going to be a premium entertainment channel with non-fiction and celebrity-based content. Since we are entering a new genre of television programming in India, it is important that we recruit a public relations and communications partner who understands the genre of television that we are venturing into.”

Zoom is not the only surprise item that Times Television has up its sleeves. Up next is a health channel and a business channel. Details on the same are still being kept under wraps.
