Sumanta Datta, Chief Executive Officer of ABP Network, has moved on after a short tenure of one year. Datta’s tenure at ABP Network was uneventful and it’s hard to figure out what impact Datta had on the network especially as in the last 18 months ABP Network saw many changes.
Sources close to the development have confirmed the development to exchange4media. However, when e4m reached out to top management at ABP Network, they denied it.

With over 30 years in senior management roles, Datta is widely regarded for building and scaling large commercial operations, driving marketing transformation, and strengthening distribution and go-to-market strategies across multinational organisations. His career has been defined by a consistent focus on innovation, strategic partnerships, channel restructuring, and the use of technology to unlock growth in complex and high-potential markets.
Before joining ABP Network, Datta served as Managing Director at Oxford University Press India, a role he assumed in September 2021. At OUP India, he played a pivotal role in steering the organisation through a period of strategic realignment, with emphasis on digital learning, market expansion, and operational efficiency.
Earlier, between April 2020 and October 2021, Datta worked as Advisor and Operating Partner to venture debt funds and early-stage companies in data analytics and the food and beverages sector. In this capacity, he supported rapid scale-up initiatives, led portfolio diversification, and enabled new business development across global markets, while also mentoring leadership teams. During this phase, he was instrumental in completing three independent fundraises and strengthened his standing as a strategic advisor in the startup ecosystem.

A substantial part of Datta’s professional legacy was built during his long association with The Coca-Cola Company, where he spent close to two decades from 1994 to 2013. Starting as Area Operations Manager for Central India, Delhi, and Mumbai, he rose through the ranks to become Vice President of Operations for India and South West Asia, playing a key role in strengthening Coca-Cola’s operational and distribution backbone in the region.
He began his career as a Management Trainee at ITC Limited in 1993, leading commercial marketing and customer development for Aqua Foods, laying the foundation for what would become a distinguished leadership journey across multiple industries.
