Who will bag Tata Groups PR mandate post Jan. 2018?
The Tata Group is considering review of its Public Relations mandate which is currently handled by PR firm Edelman in association with Rediffusion. The review is likely to happen post January 2018.
After more than six years, the Tata Group is considering review of its Public Relations mandate which is currently handled by PR firm Edelman in association with Rediffusion. Under the current mandate, Rediffusion-Edelman is handling public relations for Tata Sons including its 29 group companies.
It must be mentioned that Edelman bagged the Tata mandate in 2011 after the Niira Radia tapes controversy which led to the closure of the group’s preferred PR firm Vaishnavi.
Interestingly, the spat between Tata Group and its ousted Chairman Cyrus Mistry saw the involvement of other PR agencies to handle various responsibilities of the group. These agencies included names like Adfactors and Avian media. While Adfactors managed the investor relations, Avian media took charge of its trusts.
Considered amongst the largest PR mandates in the country with a billing involving Rs 60 crore, the current Rediffusion-Edelman mandate is set to expire by the end of January 2018 post which it will be up for grabs again. Speculations are already rife about possible agencies that could bag the mandate.
Speaking to exchange4media about the development, Rakesh Thukral, Managing Director, Edelman India said, “We have had a great six plus years with them and it’s an honour to work with them and we have done some great work and we will continue to explore every opportunity to work with them.”
When asked about the possibility of another extension, Thukral added, “I can’t say anything right now, the only thing that I can say now is that Rediffuison –Edelman has got an extension till January 31, 2018.”
