After massive criticism and loss of MSD’s account, Harshil Karia, Founder of Schbang, the creative agency behind the death stunt of Poonam Pandey, has issued an apology on social media.
Karia wrote, "To those we've upset or hurt, I stand before you with a humility born from this mistake. Saying 'I'm sorry' hardly captures the dept of my regret, but I offer it to you sincerely, hoping it marks beginning of our amends."
"This incident has taught me a valuable lesson: true change requires us not to break down walls, but to build gates--gates of understanding, empathy, and respect for all".
Karia also thanked the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) for helping the agency rectify its mistakes, and said going forward, they will take guidance from ASCI on campaigns.
Earlier this month, Schbang in association with Hauterfly (A Fork Media Co.), garnered a lot of flak for faking Poonam Pandey's death as part of a cervical cancer initiative aimed at raising awareness among women to take the HPV vaccine.
Following the negative comments and backlash, Schbang came out with an apology but also shared stats showing how the stunt helped in raising awareness about cervical cancer. Amid the criticism, the agency even lost big pharma client MSD, which parted ways calling the campaign irresponsible.
