Uber’s COO Barney Harford and CMO Rebecca Messina to step down

The decision has been taken by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi as he wants to be more directly involved in the company’s day-to-day operations

Uber’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Barney Harford and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Rebecca Messina are stepping down, according to media reports.

As per the reports, in an email to employees, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has said that he wants to be more directly involved in the company’s day-to-day operations and has decided that the heads of Uber’s core businesses should report directly to him.

"I now have the ability to be even more involved in the day-to-day operations of our biggest businesses, the core platform of Rides and Eats, and have decided they should report directly to me. This will allow me to be more hands on and help our leaders problem-solve in real time, while also ensuring that we make our platform vision a reality," Khosrowshahi was quoted as stating in the email.

Khosrowshahi also reportedly said that has has decided to combine Uber’s marketing, communications and policy teams in order to maintain a “unified narrative to consumers, partners, the press, and policymakers.” 

This team will be led by Jill Hazelbaker. Hazelbaker was Senior Vice President of communications and public policy before this shuffle.

The shake-up has come a month after the company went public.
