Quasar’s Brand and Media Solutions arm, today, announced the appointment of Sourav Dutta as Account Director, West. In his new role, Sourav will support new business initiatives for Quasar’s western region and will be the account lead for Travelocity, Tata AIG and Sharekhan. Sourav shall report into Moneka Khurana, Business Director, West, and would be based out of Mumbai.

Microsoft is considering becoming a virtual cable operator and wants to put television content on to its Internet connected Xbox 360 video game consoles. While the company has no plans to introduce this in India for now, the system could become a niche operator in the long run.

Amazon responds to allegations that it removed WikiLeaks from its servers because of political pressure. It has clarified that there were terms of service violations and fears that WikiLeaks was inadvertently endangering innocent people, due to which it has taken this step.

It appears that the most controversial pitch of 2010 is finally nearing a conclusion. Reckitt Benckiser is said to be parking its Rs 200 crore upwards media business with ZenithOptimedia. The FMCG major is in the process of making the shift. Neither the agency officials nor the client have confirmed this development yet.

Zee Marathi is extending its prime time band and will now have shows that start from 6 pm. The channel is also launching a new fiction show called ‘Waaras’, which will premiere on December 6, 2010.

HT Brunch is all set to come out in a new avatar, a quarterly magazine. The first issue of this magazine is expected to hit newsstands by the middle or third week of December 2010. The magazine will be priced at Rs 100. Meanwhile, Brunch will also continue as a weekend supplementary with Hindustan Times.

“Sensational stuff always makes for high viewing figures. I am not saying good viewing, but it does attract people to your show. But the question is, how long will this last? You can get people to watch for a while, but sensationalism doesn’t sustain long term viewership… you can’t show the same thing and keep the show monotonous,” says SK Barua, Managing Director, Fremantle Media India.
