Election day coverage saw top news channels such as India TV, Aaj Tak and ABP News raking in ad revenue through L bands on their digital feed.

Sunday was the vote-counting day for Assembly Elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana, which saw massive viewership numbers.

Aaj Tak, which saw an average of 5 lakh concurrent viewers on its YouTube feeds, led with over 35 advertisers. At its peak, it saw 8 lakh concurrent viewers across its live feeds. The channel sold over 1,000 L bands on Sunday for counting day.

Top brands that advertised on Aaj Tak and India Today TV included MP Birla Cements, Catch Masale, Hindwear, Vimal, Nirma and MDH.

While Aaj Tak sold over 1,000 L-bands, ABP and India TV sold between 200 and 270 to the advertisers on the crucial day.

Historically, vote counting day is a lucrative opportunity for news channels to generate ad revenue as it sees high viewership numbers that attract advertisers.

L bands are L-shaped ad templates on the TV screen that are used to present ads in a non-intrusive way alongside the content for 10 seconds.
