Google mulls layoffs and restructuring of ad sales unit: Report
Advancements in Google's AI-powered campaign planner Performance Max can automatically create ads that require no human intervention said a news report
Tech giant Google is reportedly planning to restructure its 30,000-strong ad sales unit after making some advancements in Artificial Intelligence. A news report said that new AI innovations at Google can automatically suggest and create ads that will perform well for customers, requiring no human intervention and turning the ad sales unit redundant.
The announcement of the restructuring was made by Google's president of the Americas and Global Partners Sean Downey last week.
The AI-powered campaign planner Performance Max was launched in 2021 by Google, which updated it with generative AI-based features at the I/O event this year. The upgrade made it easier for the planner to create custom ads and scale them.
An increasing number of advertisers have reportedly adopted Performance Max to sell ads for Google services like YouTube, Search, Display, Discover, Gmail and Maps.
The tech giant fired 12,000 employees earlier in the year, making it the biggest layoff in the company's history thus far.
